Summer is all about fabulous events and sensational moments, so I was over the moon when I was asked to plan an astounding birthday party at the Intercontinental Hotel Wharf DC venue! As an event planner in Washington DC , I usually plan and organize the most special wedding days for couples who are set to begin their lives together. However, this summer event portrayed a vibrant and modern 50th birthday party, which was refreshing and extremely fun to plan.

It was a surprise birthday party for a woman for whom there aren’t enough words to describe! The entire setting of this event was a portrayal of her magnificent personality and vibrant soul. She is a person who is full of life and loves empowering other women, which is a trait that I hold in high regard, hence the celebration had to depict her beautiful character.

In my experience as a wedding planner in DC, I always strive for elegant and classy events with modern and clean designs, and this one is no exception! I opted for a modern and colorful design with sophisticated details. It was also an intimate celebration with the celebrant’s loved ones flying in from different states and even out of the country, so it was important to create an atmosphere that was vibrant, fun, and filled with love.

The initiators for this surprise celebration were the celebrant’s friend and sister-in-law. Her husband was also involved in the planning process ensuring no detail was left behind! We chose the Intercontinental Hotel Wharf DC venue because the celebrant loves water views, and the Wharf DC area is the perfect location for out of town guest, with lots of dining options and activities at their disposal.

This vibrant party took place in the Algonquian Ballroom situated on the hotel’s top floor, which was the ideal spot for celebrating a special occasion in the middle of summer, surrounded by the city’s picturesque views and the Potomac River.

As a local event planner, my goal is to ensure every celebration is equal parts beautiful and meaningful, while depicting the character of the guest of honor, and with the help of the celebrant’s best friend and sister-in-law, we succeeded in creating something truly magical.

My favorite part of this celebration was the reveal moment – when the celebrant saw the design of this vibrant party that was fully centered around her. She was thrilled and utterly impressed. Her exact words after the event were: “This was officially THE BEST night of my life. I want a repeat every year”, and when a client says words like these, you know you have done your job properly!

I was honored to be part of this astounding birthday party, and as an event lanner, I was really proud to help bring such a momentous milestone celebration to life. It was magical to witness such sincere moments filled with love and joy. Plus, organizing a birthday party for such an extraordinary woman felt glorious!
